How to become a Project Engineer
Project Engineers lead a team of professionals, so an extensive educational background and training are necessary to excel in this career. Some employers require that you have three to four years of training prior to employment.
- 1.During your last two years of high school, take the STEM strand (Science, Technology, and Mathematics). The courses offered in this strand will help prepare you for the more advanced engineering principles in college.
- 2.Take a bachelor degree in engineering, business management, or construction management. In these programs, you will learn about basic business practices, manufacturing processes, technical communications, and even accounting.
- 3.You can also consider taking a masters degree in engineering if you’re in the pursuit of a management position.
- 4.Complete training. On-the-job training typically lasts for six months to a year. Some people take training courses but most opt for internships while schooling.
- 5.You can also obtain certifications to showcase your skills and expand your job prospects.
- 6.Look for employment opportunities in government agencies, architecture firms, or construction companies where you will most likely work in an office working regular hours.
