What's it like to be a Forklift Driver?
Forklift Drivers work in warehouses, construction sites, ship dockyards, and recycling yards to move and transport cargo or materials. They also move stock for retail stores. The work that Forklift Drivers do is considered a specialization in the handling of heavy equipment. The work is essential in the agricultural, manufacturing and warehousing industries.Tasks and duties
- Unloading and loading material.
- Identifying damage.
- Reporting shortages.
- Sorting, packing, wrapping, tying and labeling products.
- Weighing products and recording weight and other data in product labels.
- Storing the transported materials properly.
- Producing activity logs.
- Checking the forklift pre and post-operation.
- Maintaining the condition of the forklift.
- Following health and safety regulations.
How to become a Forklift Driver
Specialized training in operating a forklift and certification from the Technical Education and Skills Development Agency (TESDA) is necessary to become a Forklift Driver. Employers prefer High School graduates.
- 1.Complete the Heavy Equipment Operation (Forklift) NC II course from TESDA accredited schools. This requires a minimum of 156 hours of study.
- 2.Get a National Certificate II (NC II) upon passing the Competency Assessment.
- 3.With experience, you can move up to the position of Supervisor. Some Forklift Drivers can also become trainers.
