What's it like to be a Welder?
Welders create and repair metal goods by using heat to fuse metals, such as brass, stainless steel and aluminum. Depending on what metals they’re cutting and joining, Welders may use a variety of different welding tools and equipment. Welders are skilled professionals that work in a variety of industries including automotive, construction and manufacturing. They also plan layouts and measurements and test welded surfaces. Welders possess in-depth knowledge of welding machinery and electrical equipment.Tasks and duties
- Interpreting blueprints, drawings and measurements to plan layouts.
- Welding small and large components such as copper plumbing, beams and pipelines.
- Using specialized machinery for industrial welding.
- Maintaining all machinery.
- Assessing welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.
- Following and enforcing strict safety regulations.
How to become a Welder
You can become a Welder without a qualification, but a welding certification can improve your prospects.
- 1.Get a high school diploma. Most welding programs require at least a high school diploma.
- 2.Enroll in a welding program to get a certification. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) National Certificate (NC) I is a short TESDA course in the Philippines that will train you in the key skills required for the role.
- 3.Gain hands-on experience. Once you have been certified as a Welder, look for opportunities to work as an apprentice.
