What's it like to be an Electrician?
Electricians work in domestic, commercial, and industrial capacities to ensure that electric current requirements are met and electrical systems are operating safely. They are essential to the manufacturing, utilities, and service industries including construction, motor vehicle and goods repair, transport, public administration and defense.Tasks and duties
- Liaising with Architects, Engineers, and Foremen regarding electrical requirements.
- Reading blueprints and drafting plans.
- Installing electrical components and systems in commercial and residential buildings.
- Testing conductivity.
- Performing safety checks.
- Repairing motors, generators, or circuit breakers.
- Rewiring houses or buildings.
- Inspecting electrical equipment, systems, and components for defects or hazards.
- Replacing defective switches, relays, and motors.
How to become an Electrician
To become an Electrician, you need to complete a two-year vocational course in electrical technology and gain experience through apprenticeship.
- 1.Complete a two-year vocational course in electrical technology.
- 2.Be certified by the Technical Skills and Development Agency (TESDA).
- 3.Apprentice under experienced technicians. The hands-on training will hone your skills.
- 4.After an apprenticeship of one year, you can get promoted to Level 1 Electrician.
- 5.After gaining experience, you can move up to Senior or Head Electrician.
- 6.You may choose to get additional certification such as Registered Master Electrician by taking further studies and getting a Master Electrician license. Becoming a Master Electrician opens opportunities for you to work in other countries.
