What's it like to be a Warehouse Assistant?
Warehouse Assistants are responsible for the logistics of receiving, processing, storing and sending goods and other products according to purchase orders and shipping schedules. They can also load orders onto delivery vehicles or shipping containers. Warehouse Assistants handle incoming stock and ensure that outgoing parcels are in good condition and have been labeled appropriately.Tasks and duties
- Collecting items from a distribution center and transferring them to shipping bays.
- Keeping a detailed inventory of all outgoing and incoming items.
- Identifying any missing or defective products.
- Maintaining a clean and organized working environment by keeping shelves, inventory space and work stations neat.
- Collaborating with other team members to maximize group productivity.
- Ordering new supplies.
- Liaising with clients, suppliers and transport companies.
How to become a Warehouse Assistant
Formal education is not required to become a Warehouse Assistant. On-the-job training is usually provided.
- 1.Finish at least a secondary school certificate. During senior high school, consider taking the Technical Vocational, ABM or GAS strand.
- 2.Gain a Forklift license if required by your employer
- 3.If you’re looking to progress your career, consider completing a bachelor degree in operations management to boost prospects. With enough training, you can pursue roles as a Warehouse Supervisor, Warehouse Manager or Operations Manager.
