Robinsons Retail is the second-largest multi-format retailer in the Philippines. It started out in the retail business in 1980 when it opened its first department store in Metro Manila. Since then, it has expanded into other retail formats: the supermarket business in 1985, the DIY business in 1994, the convenience store and specialty store businesses in 2000 and the drug store business in 2012.With over 30 years of retail experience, it possesses a deep understanding of Philippine consumers and enjoys market leading positions across all its business segments. It operates in six business segments: supermarkets (Robinsons Supermarket and its two subformats: Robinsons Easymart and Robinsons Selections), department stores (Robinsons Department Store), DIY stores (Handyman Do it Best, True Value, True Home by True Value and the big box hardware subformat Robinsons Builders), convenience stores (Ministop), drugstores (South Star Drug and The Generics Pharmacy) and specialty stores (from consumer electronics and appliances retailers Robinsons Appliances and Savers Appliances to toys retailer Toys "R" Us, one price point retailer Daiso Japan, coffee chain Costa Coffee and international fashion brands such as Topshop, Topman and Dorothy Perkins and international cosmetics brands such as Shiseido and Benefit).Robinsons Retail is well-positioned to capture the continuing macroeconomic growth together with the increase in disposable income and consumption in the Philippines, particularly in the middle-income segment, one of its key target markets.

What’s it like working at Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc.?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. appreciate the friendly and supportive colleagues who treat each other like family, creating a positive work environment. The company is recognised for providing valuable training and development opportunities through seminars, coaching, and on-the-job learning that help staff grow professionally. Employees also value the benefits package, including HMO coverage and employee discounts, as well as the strong learning experience the company offers, particularly for those early in their careers.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Working hours can be extended, with compressed schedules and frequent overtime, particularly in certain departments. Compensation is an area where employees feel improvements could be made, with concerns about salary increases and recognition for loyalty. Work-life balance can be challenging due to demanding workloads and pressure to complete tasks beyond regular hours. Some employees have also noted variations in management approaches, and the workload itself can be demanding, requiring multitasking and managing high volumes of work within tight timeframes.

The challengesThe extended working hours have become excessive. Overtime assignments are often given without proper recognition, and the distribution seems to favor only those perceived as physically strong. Such practices reflect a lack of professionalism among leadership, especially when concerns are addressed indirectly rather than openly. The workload has become overwhelming, yet the allotted time is insufficient. Employees are even required to bring home their laptops to complete tasks, but this additional effort is not compensated. Such practices raise serious concerns about fairness and proper recognition in the workplace.

The bad experience with this company outweighs the good.
The good thingsEmployees are looped in on upcoming sale and promo events so we always know where to go. Sometimes, employees in the head office receive free items straight from the stores.
The challengesBenefits: No free HMO dependents. Environment: Seats and desks are non-ergonomic. Files are cluttered, there is no proper storage facility. Employees tend to communicate with one another loudly that it's causing disturbance. Culture: Reprimanding employees publicly rather than privately is common practice. In some instances, it could come uncomfortably close to verbal misconduct. Apparently, these "leaders" are too busy to think about others' feelings. If you're not careful, you'll develop anxiety working under this kind of leadership. Workload: Compressed schedule i.e. 9.5 daily hours excluding lunch from Mon to Fri. Expect daily overtime on top that, especially in the first two weeks of the month if you're in Finance/Accounting. Work and life balance is definitely poor. Final Pay: It takes more than a month for clearance to be completed and another two months to get the check signed. HR can't be bothered to respond to follow-ups unless you threaten them with a DOLE complaint.
