What's it like to be a Teacher?
Teachers are responsible for the education of their students. They teach students according to their field of specialization and the assigned national curriculum. They evaluate the needs of students and ensure they have a good grasp of the subject they are learning. Teachers implement educational teaching plans that can range from classroom lectures and discussions to field trips and other activities.Tasks and duties
- Planning classes in line with a curriculum.
- Promoting a healthy learning culture.
- Creating assessments for students such as tests, quizzes, essays and projects.
- Marking test papers and other school materials.
- Giving feedback to maximize learning.
- Attending meetings including parent-teacher interviews.
- Working one-on-one with students that need additional support.
How to become a Teacher
A formal education and experience are required to become a Teacher.
- 1.You can take any of the strands in senior high school if you haven’t decided on a specialization. If you want to be an English teacher, you can opt to take the Humanities and Social Sciences strand (HUMSS).
- 2.Complete a bachelor degree in primary education or secondary education, depending on what field of teaching you want to pursue.
- 3.Take an internship for on-the-job training. Most aspiring teachers are required to apply their skills in real classes.
- 4.Take the Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) through the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).
- 5.If you didn’t complete a bachelor degree in education, you can still have a career as a teacher by completing the Teacher Certificate Program (TCP). This includes 18 units of Professional Education. Once you complete this, you will be eligible to take the LET.
- 6.After getting your license, you can gain employment as a teacher in public and private schools and academies.
