What's it like to be a Security Guard?
A Security Guard regularly patrols areas, performs security checks, looks out for any suspicious behavior, responds to emergencies, and guards individuals within premises from any threats. They typically work for 12 hours a day, either on a day time or night time shift.Tasks and duties
- Inspecting entrance and exit points for any unlawful entry.
- Authorizing persons and vehicles to enter the vicinity.
- Performing security checks on all doors, windows, and exits.
- Being on high alert for any suspicious activity.
- Patrolling common areas.
- Providing assistance in emergency situations or calamities.
- Attending incidences of violence or crime to uphold safety of individuals and possessions.
- Upholding peace and orderliness at all times.
How to become a Security Guard
To work as a Security Guard, some formal education is required.
- 1.Attain at least a high school diploma. A graduate degree in criminology is advantageous.
- 2.You must be between 19 to 50 years old, and should be both physically and mentally fit. Some companies may require a minimum height of at least 5 feet and 4 inches.
- 3.Undergo a pre-licensing training course (PLTC) at any accredited training center. You will need to secure documents such as your birth certificate, barangay clearance, police clearance, NBI clearance, and diploma or transcript of records.
- 4.Obtain a License to Exercise Security Profession (LESP) from the Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA).
- 5.Pass the general knowledge exam (GKE).
- 6.Complete requirements such as the training certificate, opening and closing report, pre-license training certificate, firearms proficiency certificate, court clearance, as well as a neuropsychiatric and drug test clearance.
- 7.Apply to a security agency or directly to a company.
