What's it like to be a Concierge?
A Concierge interacts with hotel guests the moment they check in. As such, Concierges must possess strong communication skills and proficiency in English, Tagalog and other Filipino languages when needed. A Concierge’s average workday will depend on their shift. Day shift Concierges can encounter many guests, while a night shift Concierge may only handle only a few. Concierges address the questions and concerns of guests in a friendly and professional manner, using their expert local knowledge.Tasks and duties
- Manning the front desk of the hotel and addressing any concerns from hotel guests.
- Answering calls from guests.
- Providing information to hotel guests regarding the hotel’s facilities, as well as the nearby attractions, shopping districts and recreational areas.
- Booking reservations for hotel guests at nearby venues, restaurants and spas.
- Arranging sightseeing tours or side trips.
- Running errands for guests and picking up deliveries as requested.
- Receiving all mail and luggage.
- Contacting translators or interpreters when needed.
- Maintaining a positive relationship with guests.
How to become a Concierge
To become a Concierge, you usually need a qualification in the hospitality industry that can be acquired through formal education, or equivalent experience.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in any tourism or hospitality course.
- 2.Gain experience as a hotel staff member. This could be in an entry-level or administrative role.
- 3.Get to know the day-to-day operations of the establishment you’re assigned to. This will allow you to help your guests better and build rapport with your co-workers.
- 4.After becoming an experienced Concierge, you can work your way to a lead or head Concierge position.
