What's it like to be a Quantity Surveyor?
Quantity Surveyors are in charge of managing costs and contracts within a building project from beginning to completion. They ensure projects are completed on time and on budget. They are active in the construction process and work on-site, with responsibilities such as running cost estimates on materials, issuing payments to contractors, and delegating work among the construction team.Tasks and duties
- Running cost estimates on various materials needed for a project.
- Coordinating with Site Managers, Site Engineers, and other team members to ensure the project is on time and on budget.
- Preparing contracts, invoices, and other necessary documents.
- Issuing payments to contractors and other employees.
- Hiring and coordinating with subcontractors as needed to ensure the project finishes within the timeline.
How to become a Quantity Surveyor
To become a Quantity Surveyor, you must have a relevant qualification and experience.
- 1.Take up a bachelor degree in engineering, preferably in civil engineering or mechanical engineering.
- 2.Pass the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination or Mechanical Engineering Licensure Examination administered by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to become an Engineer.
- 3.Gain 3 to 5 years of experience in construction projects to become a Quantity Surveyor.
- 4.Some companies will require additional qualifications such as the Master Plumbing Licensure Examination.
