What's it like to be a Construction Project Manager?
A Construction Project Manager is expected to work with various suppliers and stakeholders, ensuring that a proper plan and timetable is set while accounting for the cost of materials, supplies and labor. Aside from having an excellent grasp of the construction process, as well as architectural and engineering principles, a Construction Project Manager must be able to have time management and multitasking skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and establish rapport with different kinds of stakeholders.Tasks and duties
- Working with different contractors, engineers and architects to determine the scope of work and deliverables.
- Calculating the projected costs needed to deliver a project.
- Managing the project costs and negotiating prices to stay within budget.
- Managing and obtaining paperwork such as permits, approvals and other construction requirements.
- Planning construction timetables and ensuring projects are on time.
- Reporting on a project’s progress.
- Coordinating efforts and managing relationships with subcontractors, architects, and engineers.
How to become a Construction Project Manager
You usually need a combination of education and industry experience to become a Construction Project Manager.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a similar field. This usually takes four to five years of study.
- 2.Gain several years of experience in construction management or on-site coordination.
