What's it like to be a Pharmacy Assistant?
Pharmacy Assistants perform a variety of duties primarily involved with administrative work and overseeing the products on display in a pharmacy. They may also be involved in customer-facing tasks, such as working the counter and attending to customer enquiries.Tasks and duties
- Labeling medicine bottles.
- Managing and replenishing stocks.
- Organizing shelves.
- Monitoring expiration dates.
- Inspecting the quality and orderliness of medicines in storage.
- Counting medicines.
- Addressing customer enquiries.
- Helping pharmacists in the release of prescription purchases.
How to become a Pharmacy Assistant
To work as a Pharmacy Assistant, formal education is required.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree, preferably in medical science, nursing, pharmacy or pharmacology, physical therapy or physiotherapy, psychology, or a related field. In some cases, a vocational diploma may also be suitable.
- 2.Gain experience in a retail or drugstore environment. Aim for roles that train you in basic computer software and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
