Developing long-term relationships with clients is the primary objective of a Business Development Manager. They are often the first person that potential clients meet so a good first impression is imperative. With the help of other team members, they forecast sales revenue and compare current sales numbers to the organization’s targets. They also have the authority to delegate sales and marketing tasks among team members and they meet with upper management to discuss the overall performance of the organization.Tasks and duties
- Obtaining new business accounts and maintaining relationships with existing clients.
- Formulating sales objectives, strategies, action plans and budgets.
- Overseeing the sales cycle from finding clients to securing deals.
- Responding to complaints and resolving issues to ensure customer satisfaction and protect the reputation of an organization.
- Exploring opportunities to grow a business in coordination with the sales and marketing manager.
How to become a Business Development Manager
A combination of formal education and industry experience is needed to become a Business Development Manager.
- 1.Take the ABM strand (Accountancy and Business Management) in senior high school. During these two years, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of economics, marketing, business management and accounting.
- 2.Complete a bachelor degree in business, marketing, or other related fields. You can also consider taking a masters degree in business administration.
- 3.Gain industry experience. You can start by assuming a role in sales, marketing or customer service. An impressive track record of hitting sales targets will be beneficial once you apply for the position of Business Development Manager.
