What's it like to be an Account Manager?

They typically work with departments such as sales, marketing, and customer service to ensure that a company identifies and meets client needs. These sales professionals usually supervise Account Executives. While the latter focuses on gaining new clients, Account Managers are responsible for maintaining client-company relationships. They do this by making sure that sales goals are being met, monitoring other departments, and resolving complex client issues.Tasks and duties

- Communicating with clients to assess and meet their needs.
- Creating projects with sales and marketing departments according to client briefs.
- Presenting project proposals to senior managers and clients.
- Giving instructions to the project team, monitoring progress, and reporting to clients.
- Motivating staff to meet goals and providing solutions to issues.
- Monitoring all client-related processes.

This mid-level role requires company and customer expertise, strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills. Completing a degree may be beneficial.
- 1.Finish a four-year course. While some hirers may not specify a specific degree, others may prefer candidates to have an educational background in sales, marketing, business, or a related field. Other employers may prefer graduates with a background in their specific industry such as IT, advertising or engineering.
- 2.Gain at least two years of work experience. You may start in an entry-level role in sales or marketing, working your way up to Account Executive and, eventually, to Account Manager.
- 3.Consider completing an advanced degree to broaden your career opportunities. Examples of relevant masters degrees include marketing communications, science in marketing and marketing management.
- 4.After gaining extensive experience, you can advance to more senior roles. This could be Account Director, which involves handling Account Managers, or Regional or National Sales Manager, Sales Director, or Vice President of Sales.
