How to become a Bartender
You don’t need formal education to work as a Bartender. However, having a hotel and restaurant or business related degree with knowledge and experience in preparing classic cocktails can help you in becoming a successful Bartender.
- 1.Obtain relevant training in identifying, preparing, creating, and improving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. You can learn this by starting as a Barback, a starting position in helping more senior Bartenders manage a bar. Use this stage as a learning opportunity to learn the trade of bartending and how it operates.
- 2.Learn how to use and maintain bar equipment. Take time to learn how to use beer taps and how to clean them. This also includes methods in keeping a clean bar and how to wash utensils properly and efficiently.
- 3.Take educational courses such as the TESDA bartender course to expand your knowledge on bartending. Some courses also include theatrics such as the art of pouring drinks. Having this knowledge enhances your skill as a Bartender.
- 4.Consider leveraging your bartending experience to become a Bar Owner. Using your wealth of knowledge in bar operations for both front and back of house can lead to opportunities in co-owning or managing your own bar.
