The Department of Education (DepEd) established the Division Office of Tacloban City on April 1, 1971. DepEd's mandate consits of (i) School Head Empowerment by strengthening their leadership roles and School-Based management within the context of transparency and local accountability. Departments mandate to Basic Education on the trifocal education system which covers Elementary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education including Culture and Sports. The Goal of Basic Education is to provide the school age population and young adults with skills, knowledge,and value to become caring, self-reliant, productive and patriotic citizens.
