What's it like to be a Store Supervisor?
A Store Supervisor manages store operations by monitoring inventory, organizing staff work schedules, and providing store performance reports. Store Supervisors may also procure new stock, manage staff, organize staff meetings, and perform other related duties that ensure the successful running of the store. They employ customer service skills and mentor sales staff to perform their duties to help meet store targets or exceed store metrics.

- Assigning work tasks to store staff to meet the needs of the store and its customers.
- Monitoring inventory and procurement of new stock as needed.
- Mentoring store employees to benefit the performance of the store.
- Providing assistance to new hires to learn about store policies and procedures.
How to become a Store Supervisor
Becoming a Store Supervisor requires some experience in store operations. Proven experience in handling customers and store staff is essential in getting hired.
- Complete a college degree and gain relevant store management experience. While not a hard requirement for most employers, accomplishing a three or four year college degree increases your chances of getting a job. Some establishments also accept job seekers with three to five years of relevant work experience in a similar industry.
- Develop your customer service and people management skills. Knowing how to handle various customer service situations increases your chances of getting hired. People management skills are equally important.
- Take up extracurricular studies in accounting, inventory management control and other helpful business areas. Being able to balance the till at the end of the day, manage inventory stock, and implement pricing strategies are some transferable skills that may provide you with an advantage.
