What's it like to be a Procurement Officer?
A Procurement Officer researches, negotiates costs and purchases products or services on behalf of an organization. Their day-to-day tasks involve contacting potential suppliers, establishing business relationships with external vendors, facilitating paperwork, and evaluating the best candidates to provide goods and services to fulfill business needs.Tasks and duties
- Maintaining purchasing records.
- Managing the procurement process.
- Leading negotiations with suppliers and vendors.
- Facilitating communications between external partners and organization stakeholders.
- Reviewing and executing contracts with supply and service partners.
- Conducting research of new suppliers and vendors to meet organizational demands.
How to become a Procurement Officer
You usually need a relevant degree to become a Procurement Officer. Experience in a procurement or buying role is beneficial.
- 1.Complete a business or finance-related bachelor degree. This usually takes three to four years.
- 2.Gain experience in roles that develop your understanding of relevant laws, procurement process management, and your ability to negotiate with partners and stakeholders.
- 3.Undertake relevant certifications to improve your negotiation and procurement skills. Some business schools offer short course certificates that complement skills learned at university.
