What's it like to be an Insurance Broker?
Insurance Brokers work in agencies or as self-employed professionals. They help their clients, who may be individuals or businesses, to pinpoint their risks, and then give advice on insurance policies or packages that will mitigate such risks. To find competitive deals, Insurance Brokers study the insurance products of different companies. They get multiple quotes and rates to find premiums within their clients’ budget. Insurance Brokers also help their clients understand policies, including their scope, and terms and conditions. When clients have chosen policies, they assist them in signing contracts, and eventually managing and settling claims.Tasks and duties

How to become an Insurance Broker
Insurance Brokers must have knowledge of risk management techniques, so they can find the right insurance policies to protect their clients. To land this role, a strong foundation in customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree. Though you can be an Insurance Broker with any degree, consider taking up relevant fields such economics, business management or finance. Useful topics to learn are accounting, investment management and business law.
- 2.Undergo on-the-job training. While studying, finish an internship in an insurance company or insurance brokerage to get a feel of the work environment and learn the role’s basics.
- 3.Gain work experience by starting in an entry-level position such as Insurance Broker Assistant, Insurance Agent Assistant or a role in customer service.
- 4.Before you can practice as an Insurance Broker, you must first secure a license from the Insurance Commission. You need to have five to ten years of experience before taking the Pre-Licensing Exam. An Insurance Broker license is renewable every three years.
- 5.Develop your career through continued education. This will help deepen your knowledge or choose a field you want to specialize in. You may even pursue a masters degree to advance your position or operate your own insurance brokerage.
