What's it like to be an IT Support Officer?

They identify problems, conduct research, provide solutions, prevent incidents and fix problem areas that can interrupt technology-related operations.Tasks and duties
- Understanding the layout of an IT system.
- Analyzing technology issues and reporting them to relevant groups.
- Offering support in networking, hardware, or software.
- Communicating IT incidents to relevant stakeholders which may affect operations.
- Interacting with end users and stakeholders through different communication channels.
- Escalating specific problems to appropriate solutions groups.
How to become an IT Support Officer
Having work experience and relevant training in IT systems is usually required to work as an IT Support Officer. Most candidates start as an entry-level IT Helpdesk Specialist that is responsible for providing IT support.
- 1.Complete an IT degree. This can take two to four years to complete.
- 2.Take relevant vendor certifications. Some companies require highly specialized knowledge and experience using vendor specific IT systems. Some industry recognized certifications such as ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) are also sought after by most employers.
- 3.Practice effective communication to help advance your career. As part of a support system for many organizations, being able to communicate clearly with different stakeholders will be helpful in working with internal customers and external partners.
