What's it like to be a Network Administrator?
A Network Administrator is tasked to oversee the daily operations of computer networks. This includes troubleshooting any problems that may arise, supervising digital security and overseeing network health. Network Administrators also install and configure hardware and software that form part of a network. This allows information to be shared efficiently and safely between computer systems. A Network Administrator is expected to work with IT staff and other employees to address network and system needs.Tasks and duties
- Maintaining computer networks and systems.
- Installing network equipment to update or fix hardware or software issues.
- Installing or updating virus protection software to keep important data protected.
- Monitoring computer systems to improve network performance and identify bugs.
- Training new users and resolving networking issues with other employees.
How to become a Network Administrator
To become a Network Administrator, you need a bachelor degree and experience in the IT industry. Additional certifications or a masters degree may help you progress to a management position.
- 1.Complete a four or five-year bachelor degree in computer science, information technology, or another similar field.
- 2.Gain industry experience. You could start off in a technical support role, or undertake an internship program while studying.
- 3.Consider advancing your career with a masters degree in network systems or a related field.
