What's it like to be a Housekeeping Attendant?
Housekeeping Attendants are responsible for cleaning rooms in places such as hotels, lounges, inns, and the first class area of planes. They go from room to room to conduct housekeeping, and may also service a hotel’s corridors, public areas, and bathrooms. Housekeeping Attendants are usually expected to be available 24/7 at a hospitality establishment’s premises.
Tasks and duties
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and wiping down guest rooms.
- Fulfilling guests’ requests upon calling housekeeping.
- Cleaning up spills, broken glasses, and other accidental messes in an establishment.
- Changing towels and sheets and collecting dirty laundry.
- Cleaning bathrooms, lounges, ballrooms, and other public areas in an establishment.
How to become a Housekeeping Attendant
Formal education is not required for this role, but candidates with at least secondary education are highly preferred. Aspiring Housekeeping Attendants are expected to show utmost courtesy and respect the privacy of guests, and a background in hospitality or serving at high-end establishments is advantageous.
- Complete at least secondary education.
- Take a housekeeping course at TESDA or another institution.
- Gain experience vacuuming, ironing clothes, and performing other housekeeping duties through practice at home or volunteering at charity events and houses of friends and relatives.
- Apply as a Housekeeping Attendant at a hotel, motel, inn or similar establishment.
- Get promoted to Senior Housekeeping Attendant or Housekeeping Head.
