What's it like to be a Hotel Manager?
Hotel Managers ensure that a hotel operates smoothly and that guests have a memorable experience during their stay. They are expected to be involved in addressing financial, marketing, and service concerns of the establishment. Hotel Managers also have some oversight in all the aspects of hotel operations. This includes meeting staffing requirements, and overseeing repair and maintenance of hotel facilities and rooms, as well as kitchen operations. Normally, they have experience in most, if not all, operating units in a hotel.Tasks and duties
- Creating procedures or maintaining quality operation standards in hotel operations.
- Inspecting the physical premises of the hotel to ensure that standards are satisfactory.
- Managing the operating budget of the hotel.
- Addressing hotel concerns that can affect guest relations and the hotel's reputation.
How to become a Hotel Manager
Years of experience in managing hotel operations is required to land this role. Having a bachelor degree in a business or hospitality-related course is expected. Practical experience in customer service is equally important, to help address concerns that may impact the experience of guests during their stay.
- 1.Complete advanced studies in business or hospitality-related education. Taking a relevant masters degree usually takes two years to complete.
- 2.Skill up with specialized hospitality or business courses. Courses such as kitchen operations, budget management, customer service operations and other related skills can be obtained from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Having certificates in these areas can help to advance your career in hotel management.
- 3.Look for opportunities that go above and beyond what is expected of you. Becoming a successful Hotel Manager requires proven leadership skills and an eye for detail.
