Bookkeepers are accounting professionals responsible for keeping track of all cash flow within a company. Their scope of responsibility includes payroll, taxes, bills, debts, company expenses, and petty cash. Rather than Accountants who focus on the general finances of the company, Bookkeepers are in charge of recording the details of each and every transaction that happens day to day in a company.Tasks and duties
- Recording a company’s daily financial transactions.
- Reviewing financial data for accuracy.
- Balancing a company’s income and expenses.
- Filing and submitting government and tax forms.
- Computing and disbursing payroll.
- Creating systems to improve recording of data.
- Preparing financial reports and data analysis.
How to become a Bookkeeper
Bookkeepers need a bachelor degree to enter the industry, as well as proficiency in bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks. A good memory, the ability to handle large volumes of data, and diligence in updating accounts receivable and accounts payable in real time are advantageous to the job.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in any related field such as accounting or business administration.
- 2.Volunteer as a treasurer or finance officer in a school organization or charity function to learn the ropes of the job.
- 3.Undertake an internship in the accountancy department at a recognized company.
- 4.Pass the PRC Accountancy Licensure Examination and become a Certified Public Accountant.
- 5.Master bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks, and consider getting a software certification.
- 6.Consider postgraduate studies in accountancy for progressing to higher positions such as Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager.
