This role can require physical strength and fitness.
Tasks and duties
- Inspecting vehicles to determine the extent of damage or malfunctions.
- Performing general maintenance tasks such as changing oil, checking fluid levels, and rotating tires.
- Repairing or replacing broken or dysfunctional parts and fixing issues (e.g., leaks).
- Interpreting diagnostic tests to identify mechanical problems.
- Advising customers on vehicle conditions and recommending necessary repair work.
- Keeping accurate records of each repair performed on vehicles.
- Keeping up with the latest automotive technology.
How to become an Automotive Mechanic
A high school diploma is required as well as completion of a course in automotive service.
- 1.Earn a high school diploma or complete basic education through the Alternative Learning System (ASL).
- 2.Take a short course in automotive servicing such as the Automotive Servicing NC II course of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
- 3.Gain experience through an apprenticeship at a car shop.
