What's it like to be a Mechanic?
Mechanics are responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing machinery of all types, such as car engines. Mechanics are needed in many industries, including transport, automotive and manufacturing. They can work in repair garages, vehicle dealerships and manufacturing facilities. Mechanics can even set up their own shop to provide services. Since Mechanics often deal with clients, they need excellent communication and customer service skills.Tasks and duties
- Conducting routine inspections of vehicles, machinery and systems.
- Identifying issues in machinery and recommending necessary repairs.
- Performing repairs on vehicles, machinery and systems.
- Assembling mechanical components.
- Handling heavy equipment to perform repairs.
- Performing diagnostic tests to confirm the success of repairs.
- Maintaining repair records.
- Monitoring inventory and ordering new parts, equipment and tools.
- Consulting with clients and accommodating requests.
- Complying with safety standards.
How to become a Mechanic
You need to complete an automotive servicing course to become a Mechanic.
- 1.Take the Technical-Vocational Livelihood track in senior high school.
- 2.Receive your National Certification (NC) and high school diploma upon graduation.
- 3.Take the Automotive Servicing NC I course by TESDA and receive certification. You can pursue other Automotive courses under TESDA to broaden your skills and knowledge.
- 4.After gaining experience as a Mechanic, you could lead a mechanic’s shop as head mechanic. You can also open your own mechanic business after many years of experience.
