What's it like to be an Analyst?
Analysts gather and analyze data then make forecasts and recommendations based on their findings. They may begin their careers doing research, updating existing information, and spotting trends in comparison spreadsheets. Business Analysts focus on data concerning a company’s operations and management. Financial Analysts, on the other hand, focus on investment data. Analysts should be comfortable talking to stakeholders as well as making spreadsheets and doing research.Tasks and duties
- Monitoring outcomes of a client’s business processes.
- Gathering data based on client needs.
- Interpreting and analyzing complex information.
- Identifying patterns in available data.
- Developing actionable steps based on their data analysis.
- Recommending efficient and optimized solutions to improve operations.
How to become an Analyst
Analysts can work in different industries such as business, IT, or finance. Regardless of the industry, a college degree in the relevant field is usually required. A new graduate can start as a junior Analyst and receive intensive training from their firm. Learning on the job about their field, may require long hours at least for the first three years.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in a relevant field such as business analytics, business management, accountancy, economics, computer science or mathematics.
- 2.While many companies are open to hiring Analysts with no experience, it may be helpful to apply for an internship first. In an internship program, you will handle projects while learning from experts in the industry.
- 3.Consider pursuing postgraduate studies such as a masters degree in business administration (MBA).
- 4.To gain more credibility and expertise, Analysts may also choose to become a Certified Public or Management Accountant.
- 5.Take extra workshops to develop skills in oral and written communication, problem solving, report-making, adaptability, data forecasting, and analytical thinking.
- 6.WIth years of experience, you can advance to more senior roles. Analysts may pursue a senior Analyst position. They may also move up to become a Fund Manager or Treasury Manager.
