The story of Southwest Luzon Power Generation Corporation (SLPGC) starts in response to the Government’s call for additional private-sector investments in electric power generation. The DMCI Group via its wholly-owned subsidiary, SEM-CALACA POWER CORPORATION (“SCPC”), proposed the expansion of its 600 MW coal-fired Power Plant with the installation and commissioning of an additional 1,200 MW electric power generating capacity. This will be implemented in several phases over several years, keeping pace with the increasing demand for electricity in the country.Southwest Luzon Power Generation Corporation was incorporated on August 31, 2011 under Philippine laws in order to acquire, design, develop, construct, expand, operate electric power plants and engage in the business of generation company in accordance with Republic Act No. 9136, otherwise known as the ”Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001."Following the mandate of its parent company, Semirara Mining Corporation (SMC) to capitalize on the synergies between SMC’s coal mining business and the operation of the Calaca Power Plant through its sister company, SEM-Calaca Power Corporation (SCPC), the SLPGC was established adjacent to SCPC’s power plant to operate an expansion project, the 2x150 MW Batangas Coal—Fired (Circulating FluidizedBed) Thermal Power Plant also located in Calaca,Batangas.
