The schools Division was formally inaugurated on January 2, 1998 with Dr. Abella C. Macarandan, Assistant Superintendent as Officer-In-Charge.The Division Office was formerly housed at the historic Gabaldon building located within the campus of Marikina Elementary School at Shoe Avenue, Sta, Elena, Marikina City. Dr. Jerome G. Mendoza, former Assistant Superintendent of Manila was assigned as the first Schools Division Superintendent of Marikina City on April 14, 1999. On July 9, 1999, Dr. Flordeliza R. Three (3) secondary schools were established namely Marikina Heights High School, Tanong High School and Concepcion Integrated School. Sta Elena Annex became independent and named Sta. In 2006, Dr. Mayari came up with the “School first Initiative Chronicle.” It was revealed in the said chronicle that Dr. Mayari led the division on various changed for better education. Dr. Marayi brilliantly supported one of the DepEd’s best reform-agenda for the division which was anchored on the concept of BESRA (Basic Education Sector Reform Agenta).Furthermore, the redesigning of the Philippine Educational system was contemplated as the answers to the city’s or even the country’s educational crisis which includes: shortage of classroom, textbooks and teachers; insufficient educational budget; low salary of teachers and administrator; and poor performance of learners. In addition to BESRA’s principle, a strategy that invites a continuous support for the community was born to solve some predicament of the institution – this is the School’s First Initiative (SFI). SFI was about the relationship collaboration among teachers, school mangers, parents, community and local government officials. This empowered the schools to give importance to the stakeholders in applying the principle of “Shared Governance.” Knowing the importance of BESRA and SFI, DepEd-Marikina in consultation with its stakeholders had agreed on the following: Our pride is to produce Quality Thinking, Quality Feeling and Quality Acting Individuals. In 2005, under the leadership of Dr. Mayari, DepEd-marikina produced the 1st national winner in the Metrobank Search for Most Outstanding Teacher in the Philippines in the person of Mrs. Janet S. Amurao. Also in 2006 Ryan Joseph S. Amurao, the son of Mrs. Amurao won the 3rd Grand Award in the international investigatory project competition in Indiana, Annapolis U.S.A. focused on producing bio-fuel from Janitor fish which was considered a pest in Marikina and nearby rivers. In the year 2010, the First Marikina City Festival of School action Researchers was conducted headed by the project proponent Dr. Danilo S. Gutierrez (Assistant Schools Division Superintendent). It was a joint-project of the City Government and the Division of the City Schools – Marikina. The Research Festival mainly focused on School Action Research as Key to Continuous Improvement in the Delivery of Quality Basic Education. It showcased 54 action researches undertaken by 61 principals and teachers in the 17 public elementary and 14 secondary schools aimed to make Marikina City the action research capital of the Philippines. Also, during the time of Dr. Lopez, DepEd-Marikina City strengthened its computerization program. The “Basic Classroom Information System” was implemented and piloted at Marikina Science High School (MariSci) as part of strengthening the division computerization program. The program automated the tasks associated with student enrollment, student classification, class scheduling, attendance tracking, performance grading, assessment and school reporting activities. The DepEd VisionWe dream of Filipinoswho passionately love their countryand whose values and competenciesenable them to realize their full potentialand contribute meaningfully to building the nation. As a learner-centered public institution, the Department of Educationcontinuously improves itselfto better serve its stakeholders. The DepEd MissionTo protect and promote the right of every Filipino to quality, equitable, culture-based, and complete basic education where:Students learn in a child-friendly, gender-sensitive, safe, and motivating environment.Teachers facilitate learning and constantly nurture every learner.Administrators and staff, as stewards of the institution, ensure an enabling and supportive environment for effective learning to happen.Family, community, and other stakeholders are actively engaged and share responsibility for developing life-long learners. Our Core ValuesMaka-DiyosMaka-taoMakakalikasanMakabansa
