About the Agency The Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC), a government owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) attached to the Department of Health (DOH), was created under Republic Act No. 8423, otherwise known as the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act (TAMA) of 1997. PITAHC was primarily envisioned to help improve the quality and delivery of health care services to the Filipino people through the development of traditional and alternative health care (TAHC) and its integration into the national health care delivery system. On September 2012, upon review of PITAHC's mandate, the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) classified PITAHC as a research institution.
