What's it like to be a Zookeeper?
Zookeepers are responsible for the daily care and welfare of animals within zoos and wildlife parks, ensuring their needs for food, water, and shelter are met according to species-specific requirements. They monitor the health and behaviour of animals, administering medication as needed, and maintaining clean and enriching habitats to mimic natural environments. Zookeepers also engage in educating the public about wildlife conservation through demonstrations and talks, aiming to raise awareness and foster a connection between visitors and the natural world. Working in this career requires physical stamina, a keen interest in animal behaviour and conservation, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
