Visual Merchandisers create visual displays in retail stores to enhance the appeal of products and increase sales. They are expected to be highly creative with an eye for visual aesthetics and design. They must also be knowledgeable about the brand’s market and products, as well as how to best maximize spaces to create the most appealing displays possible.Tasks and duties
- Creating product displays in stores that attract customers.
- Executing a visual merchandising strategy that is aligned with the brand and target audience.
- Ensuring that visual displays are aligned across multiple stores.
- Assembling visual elements that shape the customer experience, including signs, window displays and promotions displays.
- Working with suppliers or contractors to coordinate displays.
- Changing displays and coming up with seasonal displays featuring trending products.
How to become a Visual Merchandiser
While a college degree related to fashion or art would give Visual Merchandisers an advantage, it is not a requirement. It is more important to have relevant experience.
- 1.Consider completing a bachelor degree in fashion design and merchandising, visual arts or a related field.
- 2.Gain industry experience. Consider undertaking an apprenticeship with a fashion stylist to learn the basics of visual merchandising and build a portfolio.
