Electronics Technicians are involved in installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems and equipment. They use their knowledge of electronic theory and materials to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. In their daily work, they may engage in a range of tasks such as inspecting electronic equipment, replacing faulty parts and ensuring systems function as expected. Electronics Technicians often work for telecommunications companies, industrial equipment repair firms and electronics manufacturing companies. They might also pursue careers in healthcare, naval or aeronautical industries which require sophisticated electronics systems and regular maintenance.
Tasks and duties
- Testing malfunctioning electronic equipment and identifying the issues through diagnostic procedures.
- Repairing or replacing defective components or wiring in electronic equipment.
- Assembling and installing electronic systems based on technical specifications.
- Examining equipment designs, schematics and engineering data to determine conformance to safety standards.
- Maintaining, calibrating and configuring electronic devices and systems to ensure optimum performance.
- Keeping records of maintenance, repair, and required updates of equipment.
- Collaborating with engineers or designers to identify and resolve equipment deficiencies or to incorporate new technology.
