A Chief Financial Officer (CFO) manages and oversees all financial matters in a company. This encompasses everything from taxes to revenues. The position of CFO can be considered a dual role as it is both an executive position and management position. CFOs sign off on all financial decisions and also lead and train a business’ financial team. Chief Financial Officers can determine a company’s financial success, and as such, play an active role in all financial and business decisions.Tasks and duties
- Approving all financial reports, financial statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, government reports and company audits.
- Overseeing all company budgets, expenses and projections.
- Monitoring all expenses, deposits and payments.
- Implementing financial policies.
- Improving budgets, financial processes and methods, and ensuring efficiency in financial departments.
- Coordinating with the CEO on all business decisions.
- Studying economic trends to prepare for potential challenges or opportunities for the business.
- Performing financial analysis to identify potential problems.
- Identifying areas for growth and opportunity.
How to become a Chief Financial Officer
Chief Financial Officers usually need a relevant degree and extensive industry experience.
- 1.Complete a bachelor degree in a relevant course, preferably in finance, business administration or accounting.
- 2.Consider completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Science in Finance (MSF).
- 3.Enhance your resume with certifications, such as the Certified Public Accountant license.
- 4.Gain work experience in the finance department of a company and work towards a leadership role.
