An Assistant Finance Manager oversees financial operations and processes, supports budgeting and forecasting activities, and may manage and develop the team of financial staff. They also play a vital role in the management of their company's financial reporting systems, executing data quality checks and reporting to senior finance management. A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is usually required, along with several years of related experience. This position is a stepping stone to higher-level management positions in finance.Tasks and duties
- Assisting in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, and reporting variances back to the business.
- Performing financial analysis to influence procurement, investment, and operational decisions.
- Maintaining and updating financial reports, records, and general ledgers.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes and assisting with the coordination of external audits.
- Analyzing financial and business performance against key business metrics and document pertinent financial highlights that will enable management to determine progress against budgets.
- Investigating and explaining causes of variances in financial performance and proposing corrective actions.
- Working with management in assessing and implementing new policies and procedures as needed.
How to become an Assistant Finance Manager
To become an Assistant Finance Manager in finance, earn a relevant bachelor’s degree in a Finance discipline, gain practical experience, and earn the necessary certification.
