What's it like to be an Air Conditioning Technician?
Air Conditioning Technicians do field work from site to site to fix problems with air conditioning units in houses, offices, and institutions. Their work is manual and requires expertise in different kinds of air conditioning units. They need to be equipped with troubleshooting techniques to address a variety of issues, mainly cleaning and changing parts.Tasks and duties
- Diagnosing issues in an air conditioning unit.
- Conducting cleaning and repair for an air conditioning unit.
- Moving and transporting air conditioning units and parts.
- Drafting quotes and reports for air conditioning repairs.
- Inspecting air conditioning units for safety.
- Returning to sites for follow-up appointments and maintenance check-ups.
How to become an Air Conditioning Technician
Although formal education is not required for this position, expertise and experience with air conditioning unit maintenance is necessary for the job before servicing a client. Many air conditioning service companies provide prospective technicians with training prior to their first service, and technical certifications are also available.
- 1.Complete at least senior high school, preferably under the industrial arts strand, or a bachelor degree in a related field such as engineering.
- 2.Take a TESDA course in air conditioning servicing or any other related certification.
- 3.Gain experience by volunteering to maintain air conditioning units, or take an apprenticeship with an experienced practitioner.
- 4.After gaining experience as an Air Conditioning Technician, you could consider freelancing or establishing an air conditioning service shop as an alternative to employment.
