Qualifications
- 2 to 3 years of estimating experience in Australian electrical contracting environments
- Clear, professional communicator - confident presenting numbers and assumptions to head contractors and directors
- Self-managed and disciplined - remote role with no micromanagement
- Detail-oriented with strong commercial awareness and cost sense
- Able to work to hard tender deadlines without compromising accuracy
- Comfortable asking questions early rather than making assumptions
- Proactive in raising scope risks and pricing qualifications
- Collaborative team player who communicates well across operations, procurement, and management
Background
- Must have direct prior experience estimating for Australian electrical contractors - not building services consultants, not EPC, not international experience only
- Must demonstrate strong working knowledge of Australian Standards (AS/NZS), the NCC, and the BCA as they apply to electrical and related services.
- Must have estimated projects with electrical package values of $2M to $10M AUD
Candidates are expected to be proficient (or quickly self-sufficient) across the following platforms:
- Espro - Electrical estimating
- Groundplan - Digital takeoff
- PlanSwift - Digital takeoff
- Bluebeam Revu - PDF markup & document management
- SimPro - Job management / quoting
- Microsoft 365 - Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint
- Candidates do not need to have used every platform. However, they must have used at minimum one dedicated electrical estimating platform and one digital takeoff tool. Any candidates who are not comfortable learning new estimating software quickly should not be put forward.
Responsibilities
- Leading and reviewing the output of the estimating team
- Bid/no-bid assessment and tender program management
- Client and head contractor relationship management through the tender phase
- Setting and maintaining estimating standards, templates, and processes
- Identifying commercial risks and presenting mitigation strategies
- Reporting on tender pipeline, win rates, and conversion to directors/management
- Mentoring and developing junior estimating staff
- Full quantity takeoff and pricing from first principles
- Issuing and following up subcontractor and supplier enquiries
- Preparing and reviewing bid documentation, schedules of rates, and prelims
- Attending virtual site walkthroughs, tender briefings, and client meetings
- Identifying scope gaps, exclusions, and qualifications
- Preparing post-tender clarification responses
- Completing thorough handover documentation to operations upon award
