Because for cancer patients everywhere, their fight is our fight.Varian has three reportable operating segments: Oncology Systems, Oncology Software Solutions and Proton SolutionsOncology SystemsThe Oncology Systems business designs, manufactures, sells and services hardware products for treating cancer with conventional radiotherapy, and advanced treatments such as fixed field intensity-modulated radiation therapy (“IMRT”), image-guided radiation therapy (“IGRT”), volumetric modulated arc therapy (“VMAT”), stereotactic radiosurgery (“SRS”), stereotactic body radiotherapy (“SBRT”) and brachytherapy as well as associated quality assurance equipment.Oncology Software SolutionsThe Oncology Software Solutions business includes solutions for information management, treatment planning, image processing, clinicalknowledge exchange, patient care management, decision-making support and practice management software for comprehensive cancer clinics, radiotherapy centers and medical oncology practices.Proton SolutionsThe Proton Solutions business develops, designs, manufactures, sells and services products and systems for delivering proton therapy, another form of external beam therapy using proton beams, for the treatment of cancer. Although proton therapy hasbeen in clinical use for more than four decades, it has not been widely deployed due to high capital cost. Varian’s current focus is bringing our expertise in X-ray beam radiation therapy to proton therapy to improve its clinical utility and to reduce its cost oftreatment per patient, so that it is more widely accepted and deployed.
