SY^2 + Associates Inc. is a privately held structural engineering firm based in the Philippines that specializes in global high-rise constructions; with emphasis on providing cost-effective and innovative structural design solutions.Founded as the Aromin, Origenes & Associates, Inc. in 1983, the company subcontracted projects in many parts of the world before being commissioned to design the country’s tallest building, the Pacific Plaza Condominium and the Asia’s largest shopping mall, the SM Mega Mall in 1987. Both constructions endured with their respective superlatives until the recent decade when engineering technology evolved to reach farther heights and heavier builds. The success of those initial projects cemented the company’s reputation, then known as Aromin & Sy +Associates, as the premier structural engineering firm at the onset of the construction boom in the Philippines; marking it as not only a participant in the bullish era of Philippine high-rise construction, but also as an enabler and contributor to Philippine economic progress for more than two decades running. With the official change of name to SY^2 + Associates Inc. in January 2010, the company promises to deliver the same pioneering, cost-effective, innovative and world-class structural engineering design solutions to its clients, their patrons and the world.

What’s it like working at Sy^2 + Associates, Inc?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Sy^2 + Associates, Inc value the friendly and approachable colleagues and the sense of working as one team and one family. The company provides an excellent learning environment, particularly for fresh graduates and aspiring structural engineers, with exposure to real-world construction practices and big ticket projects. Staff appreciate opportunities to develop both technical and soft skills, including coordination and project management, within a collaborative atmosphere where ideas are welcomed and questions can be asked at all levels.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Starting salaries tend to be below industry average, and the company offers government-mandated benefits only without additional HMO or special benefits. The workload can be substantial, with project deadlines often requiring overtime, and work distribution may not always be equal across teams. Some employees have also noted that management practices could benefit from improvement.

Great learning and culture, but challenges in role alignment, workload, and pay.
The good things- Strong sense of community; friendly and approachable colleagues across all levels - Engaging company culture with events (sportsfest, team building, company gatherings) - Good learning environment for fresh graduates Exposure to coordination, project management, and real-world construction practices - Opportunities to develop technical (modelling/inspection) and soft skills depending on role - Office amenities (gym, recreational areas, seminar spaces)
The challenges- Salary and initial compensation may be lower compared to industry expectations - Role assignment may differ from expectations (e.g., modelling vs design vs inspection) - Repetitive tasks for some roles, especially at junior level - Heavy workload and common reliance on overtime - Limited exposure to certain skill sets depending on assigned department - Some areas of the office (e.g., pantry) need improved maintenance and cleanliness - No HMO and special benefits; only government-mandated benefits (SSS, PhilHealth, etc.)
