Uplift, created in 1993 by French NGO Inter Aide / EdM, is a microfinance NGO working with the poorest of the poor in the slums of north Metro Manila. It provides small loans (average 6 000p), savings and training to around 8 000 beneficiaries. Currently, Uplift has 2 programs, one in Quezon City/Bulacan with 6 branches and one in Caloocan/Manila with 11 branches. The coordination is assured at the Central Head Office level and the total staff is around 100 employees.The main challenge of the organization for the next 2 years will be to reach financial sustainability in 2008.
