DA-Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) is a government corporate entity under the Department of Agriculture created through Executive Order 1061 on 5 November 1985 (as amended) to help develop high-yielding and cost-reducing technologies so farmers can produce enough rice for all Filipinos. The institute conducts research in various aspects of rice cultivation, including breeding, agronomy, pest and disease management, post-harvest technology, and socio-economic studies related to rice farming. But our goal is beyond just feeding rice farmers; rather, it is to improve their income and well-being and help the consumers access affordable and healthy rice. These goals are anchored on several international and local frameworks to ensure our relevance and contribution to improving the lives of everyone. The Institute accomplishes this through research and development work in our central experiment station in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija and branch and satellite stations strategically located nationwide: Batac, Isabela, Los Baños, Bicol, Negros, Agusan, Bukidnon, Midsayap, Mindoro, Samar, and Zamboanga. In 2006, PhilRice Central Experiment Station received three management system certifications: ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series), which unify the organization, resources, processes, and practices components into one system to help achieve the organization’s purpose and mission.
