Human Resource StaffThank you for your feedback. Allow us to address your points:
It is good to hear that you do appreciate the foundational things that we offer, particularly day shift and weekends off. We decided long ago that we do not want our operations to be 24/7 though this would be more profitable for the company. We wanted this to be our point of difference over other outsourcing companies in the city.
Floor plan – we do put a lot of thought into this, so thank you.
Salary much lower than other BPOs but higher than minimum wage – the company regularly conducts compensation research in the effort to remain competitive, so we know how much other BPO companies pay their own employee. With that being said, we can say that this statement is categorically not true. Based on our latest research, our starting salary (not including incentives) is the same as or higher than all the major BPO companies in the city. This is on top of a steady (non-rotating) Monday-Friday shift, no night shift and Saturdays and Sundays permanently off. Our team can also get up to a maximum of 10% salary increase every year. Over 70% of the team do get this 10% increase as our metrics are realistic and achievable.
Work stations/cubicles are quite small – workstations are 2 feet x 4 feet which is industry standard. We do know of some BPOs with 3-feet wide workstations, though.
Hiring standards are high, not enough room for improvement – it is true that we have kept our standards, which we have developed over the years. We know the process we are using works for getting the right people. We have tweaked and adjusted over the years and will continue to do so for years to come.
We acknowledge that the previous iterations of our training process were bit rigorous but we are currently rolling out a more adaptive training program that we find is successfully addressing these concerns. This is going to be an ongoing process of improvement for us as with anything that we do. In the meantime, those who we determine are not ready to take on a role yet are welcome to reapply. Many have done so and have eventually become successful.
No clear path for career growth – in the past 2 and a half years, we have promoted around 25 team members into positions of responsibility and are projecting at least 6 more promotions before the year ends.
Every person who holds a leadership role within the company started out as a VA – we do not hire externally for these positions. On top of this, there are also a number of team captains who handle smaller teams, which is usually the first step team members take to becoming a team leader. For a relatively smaller company like us, this presents a lot of opportunities for the team.
Everybody, except for the other few, are not really friendly and warm. You could actually feel the "no strings attached" vibe. I also don't see a warm and happy lounge area; just a corner of tired people sitting, looking at their phones, doing their own stuff, and waiting for their break-time to end. I might have expected too much positivity from this company.
We do try to keep our team members engaged with daily activities, such as the following:
Daily Stretch Breaks
Tuesdays - Healthy Choose-days, where the team gets treated to a salad bar for free
Wednesdays - WOW (Welcome Orange Wednesdays), where we say hello to new team members and hand out welcome kits
Fridays - Coffee O’clock, where people can just chill and chat over coffee
Fridays - Mugs and Melodies, where people can chill over coffee with live music in the background
While we certainly encourage people to participate in these activities, these are all purely voluntary. These activities don’t happen every hour of every day, of course, nor should they. While engagement is important, we also understand that there are times when people would prefer to just zone out or check their social media or chat to their family and friends.
We always get positive feedback about the environment in the office (yes, we do conduct periodic satisfaction surveys), with the most common comments being the environment is very stress-free, laid back and non-toxic, everybody is friendly and helpful, with special mention to the facilities team and pantry personnel, and we strive to maintain that.
With all of these in place, we understand that there is always room to improve, and we are always open and appreciate constructive feedback. We recognize that it might be daunting to approach management or even TL so we thought it would be important to give the team an avenue to address their concerns thru anonymous feedback and employee engagement representatives.
Thanks again for the feedback. We are always happy to address these. 🙂
