Working as a Public ServantThe good thingsHelping and assisting our overseas Filipino workers and their families here in the Philippines. Providing livelihood assistance to families of OFWs affected by calamities and insurance benefits to families of active OWWA members in case of death. Educational scholarship is given to qualified children of active OWWA members. One unit works 24/7 to monitor needs of our Filipino workers abroad.
The challengesSince OFWs are required to pay a membership of US$25 per work contract, a plan similar to a pension plan can be devised where an OFW continues to pay membership (for example, 10 or 15 years) and then later gets a certain pension amount when he retires working as an OFW. This will be like forced savings for OFWs to help them when their contract expires or they stop working abroad.
