MINERGY POWER CORPORATION (MPC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MINDANAO ENERGY SYSTEMS INC. (MINERGY), an Independent Power Producer established in the year 1992 by CAGAYAN ELECTRIC POWER & LIGHT CO., (CEPALCO) to address the crippling power supply crisis brought about by a severe drought in Mindanao. MPC is also 40% owned by VIVANT INTEGRATED GENERATION CORP. (VIGC), a wholly owned subsidiary of VIVANT ENERGY CORP., which in turn is 100% owned by publicly-listed VIVANT CORPORATION.Through MPC, MINERGY commissioned its first coal-fired power plant by constructing the BALINGASAG THERMAL POWER PLANT (BTPP), a 3x55MW Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) Coal-Fired Power Plant located in Barangay Mandangoa, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental. The CFBC Coal-fired power plant was designed, constructed and commissioned by world-renowned EPC contractors. The main EPC Contractor is Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan. Toshiba of Japan, on the other hand, takes care of the Power Block while DOHWA of South Korea takes care of the balance plant. The facility uses GE steam turbine generator sets and Foster Wheeler boilers. The total net capacity of 150MW is intended for the sole use of Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Inc. (CEPALCO), whose portion of its power requirements is currently supplied by MINERGY.Banking on the years of cumulative experience in building and operating both conventional and non-conventional power plants within the CEPALCO service territory, MINERGY’s construction and commissioning of the BALINGASAG THERMAL POWER PLANT will be in the near term help address the currently experienced power supply shortage in the Mindanao Grid and in the long term help sustain the brisk economic activities in the region. The plant started Commercial Operations in September 2017.
