What’s it like working at Far Eastern University?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Far Eastern University appreciate working with students, finding teaching to be a rewarding and motivating experience. The friendly and supportive colleagues create a positive work environment with good camaraderie and respectful relationships. Many note that the salary is competitive, particularly for faculty with advanced degrees, and benefits such as health cards, scholarships, and union representation are valued. The university also provides well-equipped facilities, including clean environments and excellent laboratories.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Job security can be a concern for part-time staff, particularly those approaching regularisation. The compensation structure, which is often hourly-based, may not always align with workload or years of service, and some employees experience delays in receiving their first salary. Teaching loads can be substantial, with multiple academic preparations that may not always match specialisations. Communication and organisational processes could be enhanced, as some departments may be slower in delivery. Additionally, opportunities for professional advancement and salary progression over time could be improved.

Lack of growth, unfair pay, weak union, no crisis flexibility; morale remains low overall.
The good thingsI work for an organization where policies and decisions can sometimes feel inconsistent and not always in the best interest of employees. While there are structures in place, the overall environment can be challenging due to a lack of consideration for staff well-being. One example I found frustrating is the change in policy regarding suspensions. Previously, when students were suspended, office staff were also given time off, which allowed for rest and better work-life balance. However, this practice was removed, and employees are now required to report to work even when there are no students. This change has made the workload feel less meaningful during those times and has reduced opportunities for rest, which has negatively impacted morale. Overall, the experience has been difficult at times due to decisions that seem to prioritize operational presence over employee welfare.
The challengesImproving communication and providing clearer rationale behind policy changes would also help employees feel more valued and included in decision-making processes. Additionally, placing greater emphasis on employee well-being—such as allowing flexible arrangements or recognizing downtime when operations are limited—could significantly improve morale. Overall, a stronger focus on fairness, transparency, and staff welfare would enhance both employee satisfaction and organizational effectiveness. My overall experience with the organization has been disappointing due to the lack of professional and financial growth. Despite years of service, there has been little improvement in compensation, and it is discouraging to see newly hired employees receiving higher pay than long-tenured staff, which creates a sense of unfairness.

The good thingsFor this job, I got to choose what physical activities I could offer to the students and allow them to discover among themselves that they can also do other forms of physical activities and being encouraged to do so on a regular basis as part of their daily routine to keep themselves healthy.
The challengesThe set of students you get to have every meeting is different. Adjusting your teaching styles and approaches to the skills of the students are essential for them to enjoy the session.
