The City of Masbate become a city on September 30, 2000 by virtue of Republic Act. 8807. It is a 4th Class Component City composed of 30 Barangays and the capital of the Province of Masbate in the Phillippines. It is home to approximately 100,263 Masbateños speaking three major language/dialect namely: Minasbate, Tagalog , and Bisaya. Catholic,Christian and Islam are the major religion found in the city. Known for its pristine white sand beaches and breath-taking views,vast land and fast growing economy the major industries are tourism,agriculture,and commerce and trade. With its improvement there are some challenges that needs to be addressed like urban planning, energy, water, and sanitation. However, this does not dissuade the city government to undertake a major project, the Masbate Sanitary Landfill. To ensure that further enhancement shall be realize the city needs technical cooperation like green energy, ICT,health and sanitation to name a few. Governing this beautiful city, is City Mayor Rowena R. Tuason who exercises general supervision and control. To help her maintain a smooth governance is the Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by the City Vice-Mayor Ruby Sanchez-Morano along with the forty-four (44) government agencies.
