Video Editors review and edit raw video and audio footage to create movies, clips and films. In some cases, their video editing needs to align with a director or producer’s vision for a movie. A Video Editor is expected to be detail-oriented with a knack for storytelling and visuals. They also review the final cut for any errors and revisions before publication.Tasks and duties
- Collating raw video footage on a computer to be reviewed.
- Coordinating an editing strategy with the director or producer.
- Cutting, splicing or combining video clips to achieve a desired visual flow.

- Adding sound effects or background music to enhance the mood, tone or narrative of the video.
- Ensuring the video follows a script.
- Creating a final cut.
- Color grading or correcting footage.
How to become a Video Editor
While not essential, a college degree related to video production can be helpful in becoming a Video Editor. Relevant experience is preferred by most employers.
