What's it like to be a Supply Chain Assistant?
A Supply Chain Assistant plays a role in maintaining and facilitating the operations of a supply chain, which can span various industries like manufacturing, retail, or logistics firms. Their responsibilities typically include ordering and tracking inventory, managing supplier relations, and assisting in the planning of logistics and distribution strategies. In addition, they often contribute to efficiency improvements by analyzing and optimizing processes based on data derived from the supply chain. Supply Chain Assistants usually work within a team and often communicate with different departments and external vendors.
Tasks and duties
- Coordinating and overseeing the receipt, handling, and scheduling of products in the supply chain.
- Tracking and analyzing inventory, including forecasting future stock needs.
- Facilitating the delivery of goods from suppliers to customers.
- Communicating with vendors, suppliers, and internal departments regarding orders and delivery schedules.
- Handling basic tasks in the order fulfillment process, such as order entry, order checking, and shipping.
- Preparing and maintaining necessary documentation related to supply chain activities, such as invoices, order forms, and other related paperwork.
How to become a Supply Chain Assistant
A bachelor degree is usually required. Some employers may accept an associate degree instead.
- 1.Earn an associate or bachelor degree in accounting, finance, business, supply chain logistics or related field.
- 2.Gain experience through on-the-job training and an entry-level role.
- 3.With enough experience, you could move up to the role of Coordinator.
