What's it like to be an Electronics Engineer?
Electronics Engineers design, develop, and test components, devices, systems, or equipment that use electricity as part of their source of power. These components include capacitors, diodes, resistors, and transistors. Electronics Engineers may be involved at any stage of a project including the initial brief for a concept, the design and development stage, testing of prototypes, and the final manufacture and implementation of a new product or system.Tasks and duties
- Designing, inspecting, testing, and updating electronic systems, components, equipment, and software.
- Liaising with engineers, other professionals, as well as clients to ensure projects are completed to specifications.
- Ensuring all equipment and products meet health and safety regulations.
- Observing existing processes and making recommendations for improvement.
- Developing effective maintenance, testing, and quality control procedures.
- Writing specifications, instructions, reports, and handling other required administrative duties.
- Improving the detailed design of a piece of electronic equipment.
- Constructing and working with algorithms for the design, development, and repair of electronics.
How to become an Electronics Engineer
Electronics engineering careers require at least a bachelor degree. Most Electronics Engineers have a degree in electronics or electrical engineering.
- 1.Obtain a bachelor degree. You have to complete a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering or a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Engineering courses take five years to finish.
- 2.During the fourth year of the program, you will be required to undergo On-the-Job Training. This is usually conducted in a company, organization or government agency that needs electronics and communications services.
- 3.You could choose to specialize in a particular subfield of electronics engineering, such as control engineering, instrumentation, signal processing, and telecommunications engineering.
- 4.You will have to take the board examination to become a Licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer in the Philippines. The examination is conducted by the Board of Electronic Engineering under the supervision of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC). It is scheduled twice a year in April and October.
- 5.As a graduate of electronics and communications engineering, you may pursue a career in various companies or government agencies that need specialized electronics and communications services. You may apply as a Telecommunications Engineer, Broadcast Engineer, Computer Systems Engineer, Optics Engineer, Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, Biomedical Engineer or Satellite Communications Engineer.
