A Compliance Officer ensures that a company’s operations and business transactions follow all necessary legal and internal rules. A Compliance Officer keeps an organization safe from any violations of applicable laws and regulations, preventing financial penalties and reputational damage.Tasks and duties
- Drafting and reviewing company policies.
- Developing legal compliance programs.
- Assessing risks and liaising between department heads and senior management.
- Advising management on avoiding or managing potential risks.
- Monitoring and auditing processes, practices and documents to identify potential risks.
- Training staff on compliance guidelines and informing them of any legal changes.
How to become a Compliance Officer
You usually need a relevant degree to become a Compliance Officer.
- 1.Obtain a four-year bachelor degree or higher, preferably in the field of business management, human resource management or law. A degree in your chosen industry may also be beneficial; for example, engineering companies may look for candidates with an engineering degree.
- 2.Gain experience in a management or leadership role to improve your employability. It’s also beneficial to become knowledgeable on laws and regulations that apply to your industry.
